secondary school stats

yay more stats. based on a sample of 50 secondary schools in singapore, i have found out quite some from the info i had.

i didnt know this earlier, but seeing from the cutoff points of many schools, the minimum score for normal acad is 152 and for express 188. see these magic numbers appear many times. its almost like its set by law and not demand.

the average PSLE cut off point for the express stream is 216 (standard deviation of 23) and 167 for normal academic.

the schools are quite evenly spread out across the island, with about 51% of them in the northern half and 49% in the south, but 65% are in the eastern half and only 35% in the west.

affiliation really gives students a big advantage. the difference in entry points for affilated and non affiliated students can be as much as 58 pts, in chij toa payoh. well my primary school is affiliated to nanyang girls high but obviously didnt have any help for me.

its shocking that students getting as high as 265 would opt for a school like east view sec with minimal cutoff of 188. that person could actually qualify for special stream in hwa chong or nanyang! whats going on man.

ok thats all for now. i shall look into it further next time
